Board Member Application

 

Joseph A. Seidler – Board Chair

Joe joined the Oakes Board of Directors in 2013 and assumed the role of Board Chair in 2015.  Joe works in wealth management as a Senior Vice President at UBS Financial Services, Inc. in San Francisco.  Joe began his professional career as an educator and spent ten years teaching and directing high school special education in Arizona and Southern California.  Oakes provides the opportunity for Joe to continue helping children with special needs and he is honored to be involved with the Oakes family.  Joe is a private pilot and has a passion for aviation and antique automobiles.  Joe and his wife Vanessa live in Russian Hill and they enjoy frequenting the ever-changing San Francisco restaurant scene and exploring the city in their spare time.

Lisa Freeman – Vice Chair

Lisa has always been interested in helping children, having volunteered at Edgewood Children’s Center and St. Joseph’s children’s program, with the Book Buddies program at UCSF and as a Special Olympics basketball coach (and many others). She joined the Oakes Board of Directors in 2011 in order to provide benefit in a different capacity. She works as a product manager in the software industry, and in her free time she enjoys traveling, climbing, running, theater, photography and is particularly known for her chocolate truffles.

Jerry Zhou – Treasurer

Jerry is a CPA and manager at Hood & Strong LLP. He has worked with various non-profit organizations throughout his public accounting career, and committed to giving back to the community. He is currently serving in the finance committee at Oakes Children’s Center. Outside of work, Jerry loves to travel and is planning to set foot in Peru, Brazil and Argentina as his next destinations.

Erin Frazor – Secretary

Erin joined the Oakes Board of Directors in 2013. She is an attorney specializing in business litigation, representing clients in state and federal court in a broad range of legal matters, including consumer class action defense, insurance and securities litigation, unfair competition, false and misleading advertising, and trade secret matters. Erin also represents and advises pro bono clients, focusing on special education eligibility, access to services, expulsion matters, and delivery of appropriate services to students with disabilities. Prior to practicing law, Erin was a special education teacher in the Texas public school system, and chaired the Special Education Department and New Teacher Mentoring Programs. In her spare time, she enjoys wine, spending time with her husband and two children, and plays the bass guitar.

Laura Chau – Member

Laura joined the Oakes board in 2014 after discovering a passion for children’s mental health issues, following pro bono work she conducted at the Edgewood Center. She currently serves as the development Chair for Oakes. Laura is a venture capital investor at Canaan Partners where she focuses on early-stage technology. Prior to Canaan, Laura was a management consultant at Deloitte, advising clients on growth strategy and post-merger integrations. In her spare time she enjoys globetrotting, exploring new restaurants, and going to the symphony.

Nathan SooHoo – Member

Nathan is part of the corporate development team at Trulioo focusing on partnerships, growth, and M&A. Prior to that, he was an associate at Net Service Ventures and the lead analyst at Venture Scanner. In his spare time, he invests on behalf of UCLA’s Venture Capital Fund and continues to help build the Southern California entrepreneurial ecosystem. Nathan joined the board in 2016 to serve the community and make a positive impact on developing youths.

D. Austin Hare – Member

D. Austin Hare is an attorney specializing in business litigation and employment law, as well as an expert practitioner in public and international affairs. Austin has a history of dedication to public service—from his work with major international organizations on global policy initiatives to local pro bono practice. Being the son of educators, he is proud as a member of Oakes’ Board of Directors to serve the local community in the field of education and special needs. In his spare time, he inline-skates, plays violin, and enjoys international travel.

Rose Yuan – Member

Rose is a venture capital investor at Scale Venture Partners, where she focuses on early-in-revenue technology companies, specifically SaaS, cloud and mobile. Prior to Scale, Rose was an investment banking analyst with the Technology, Media & Telecom group at J.P. Morgan, where she conducted strategic and financial analyses relating to M&A, debt and equity for companies. She has a passion for youth development and education and has historically served in various leadership and mentor roles in volunteer service organizations. In her spare time, she loves exploring new cities and restaurants around the world and being active on the badminton court.

Jeffrey Ralls – Member

Jeff is a marketing specialist with experience in various roles, startups and established organizations. Based in San Francisco he has lead efforts and campaigns across the US and globally. Over the past several years he has been heavily involved in mobile marketing, staying on the cutting-edge of where the psychology of marketing and technology meet. Jeff also brings with him extensive knowledge of youth education and development. He grew up in a family dedicated to Child Welfare, and then later worked at Edgewood Children’s Center for six years where he ran one of their residential programs. He proudly accepted a position on the Oakes’ board in July of 2015. And in the meantime he continues his travels and quests for interesting and quality ingredients in the name of good cooking and eats.
 

Frixos Michael – Member

Frixos joined the board in 2015 and is committed to giving back to the community. Frixos is a CPA and currently works at McKesson in a finance role. Prior to this role, he was a consultant at PwC, focusing on clients in the internet space. Outside of work, Frixos loves to travel and enjoys trying new restaurants.

 

Advisory Board

Elena Matsis – Human Resources Advisor

Elena Matsis is a former director who now sits on the Oakes Children’s Center Advisory Board. She brings a wealth of experience to the role of Human Resources Advisor. Elena has been practicing employment law since 1990. In her practice, she advises human resources professionals and managers on various employment law issues. Her focus is on giving advice which is both legally sound and fair. She is current employment counsel for Autodesk, Inc., a software company. Elena’s connection to Oakes makes sense given her long standing interest in helping children. Elena was a San Francisco Court Appointed Special Advocate, served on the SFCASA board and practiced law as a juvenile dependency lawyer in San Francisco for two years.
